“Art is not a profession but life to me ” – Priya Kakkar
Hi, I’m Priya Kakkar, a folk art instructor. Indian folk art forms not only showcase the true heritage of our culture, but I also believe that every region and its people have their own story to tell.
I am really passionate about teaching folk art forms as this is something that really motivates me and inspires me because I feel so much connected to my roots.
Being a folk art instructor helps me in spreading awareness about our own rich cultural heritage. Folk arts are not only about sketching and filling colors but it is about the true emotions, feelings, culture of a region, and the people associated. I have created this course on one of the most loved Indian folk art worldwide GOND.
Gond art is a mystical tribal art practiced by one of the largest tribes of India the Gonds who are predominantly from the state of Madhya Pradesh but they also can be found in the pockets of Andhra Pradesh Maharashtra Chhattisgarh Orissa and Uttar Pradesh.
The village of Patan Garh is the physical and cultural location that gave birth to the Gond art. Jangarh Singh Shyam is known as the father of the Gond art what we see today. This evolved version of Gond art is known as ‘Shyam Kalam’.”
